National Desert Storm & Desert Shield Memorial Washington DC

In Progress

The Desert Shield and Desert Storm Memorial is an located on the National Mall, near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. The memorial is small in size but powerful in its message, depicting the themes of international cooperation and the significance of the conflict through a pathway of sand dune-like landforms. Visitors can see a sculpture of an eagle and falcon representing the geopolitical context, a figurative sculpture honoring American service members, and the Unity Shield, a symbol of global cooperation and sacrifice. The memorial encourages visitors to reflect on this important moment in history as they look out over the Lawn towards the Lincoln Memorial. The National Desert Storm War Memorial is meant to commemorate and honor those who, as members of the Armed Forces, served on active duty in support of Operation Desert Storm or Operation Desert Shield.
